Trading standards

The Trading standards service affects the lives of everyone who lives in, trades in, or visits Darlington for work or leisure. We are responsible for enforcing a wide range of criminal legislation aimed at protecting consumers and maintaining standards of fair trading. We also deal with farm animal health and welfare matters.

The Council’s Enforcement policy

The Regulatory Services Group published its Enforcement Policy [pdf document] in April 2016 which applies to all of its regulatory work and details of the decision making process that officers follow when carrying out their work.
