Have your say on library improvement plans

Members of the public are invited to come and hear about the proposals for the refurbishment of Crown Street Library.

The council’s plans for the building will be discussed at a public information event at the library on Thursday 30 January from 10am to 6pm.

Drawings giving an idea of how the library could look once the work is finished will be on display.

There will also be the opportunity to ask any questions about the planned refurbishment.

At the heart of the plans will be a respect for the heritage of the building, which was gifted to the people of Darlington by the Pease family.

The plans also include improved accessibility, better toilet facilities and a strong activities and events programme.

There will also be improvements to the Local Studies centre and ICT infrastructure.

It is hoped the refurbishment will lead to an increase in the number of people using the library.

Councillor Heather Scott, Leader of Darlington Borough Council, said: “I am often asked what our plans are for the library, so I am looking forward to sharing details of the proposals.

“We will take on board all comments that come our way, both at the public information event and from other routes, and look again at the proposals, fine-tuning them where necessary before they are finalised.

“I was keen that anyone who is unable to attend the information event for any reason would not miss out on the chance to have their say or ask questions, so we have made an email address available for people to get in touch.”
