Rating agents
Using a rating agent or surveyor
If you are contacted by someone claiming to be able to save money from your bill, please note that there is no need for you to pay a fee or enter into a contract with a rating agent to obtain any type of Business Rates relief or discount.
You do not have to be represented in discussions about your rateable value or your rates bill.
However, if you do wish to be represented, please be aware that members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation are qualified and are regulated by rules of professional conduct designed to protect the public from misconduct.
Before you employ or sign any documentation with a rating adviser, you should check that they have the necessary knowledge and expertise, as well as appropriate indemnity insurance. Take great care and, if necessary, seek further advice before entering into any contract.
