An opportunity has arisen to join Darlington Borough Council’s Legal Service in our small and friendly Litigation Team

The post is the main point of contact for civil litigation, including debt recovery and employment.

Housing work is a significant part of the role, including possession applications, injunctions, anti-social behaviour casework, disrepair claims and dealing with other housing matters.

While having a working knowledge and/or practical experience of civil litigation is a requirement, we are not expecting that applicants will necessarily have experience in all of the areas outlined.

Applications are welcome from candidates who are newly qualified and/or applicants who have gained their legal experience outside of local government.

There will be some opportunities to develop experience, including beyond civil litigation, such as licensing or prosecutions.

The working arrangements are flexible. The office base is the Town Hall in Darlington with the opportunity to work from home on an agile basis, in line with the requirements of the team.

The rewards for working at Darlington Borough Council go beyond the salary you will receive; we have numerous additional benefits such as:
  • 32 days Annual Leave plus Bank Holidays, with the option to purchase additional Annual Leave (pro-rata for part time working)
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme with the option to make Additional Voluntary Contributions
  • Flexi-time scheme
  • Flexible working
  • Generous Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave schemes
  • Staff equality forums
  • Green Car Leasing Scheme
  • Access to a wide range of training, learning and development
  • Physiotherapy service
  • Confidential counselling service
  • Great wellbeing offer
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Dolphin Centre Fit for Life Discounts
  • Local and National retailer discounts
