Cummins staff pledge their support for Pride celebrations
08 July 2024

This year’s Darlington Pride promises vibrant family fun thanks to sponsorship from Cummins.

The three day Pride Weekender, which runs from 10-12 August, brings together the whole town in celebration and support of the LBTQIA+ community.

The fun kicks off on Saturday 10 August with a day of free entertainment and live music. The annual vibrant Pride march will leave the Market Square at noon to parade around the town centre. Anyone can join in the carnival-style march – just turn up and join the line!

Throughout the day, the main stage will host an array of tribute acts and local musicians and there will be food stalls, traders, activities and information on local services available for all the family until 6.30pm. The full line up with be supported by British Sign Language interpretation ensuring everyone can join in the fun. Town centre venues will be continuing the party into the night.

On Sunday 11 August, the family fun moves to South Park with the annual Pride in the Park. For the first time there will be a free Pride bike ride in the park starting at 11am and then the main event will run from noon until 3pm with crafts, face painting, live music, bubbles and story telling. Bring a picnic and come and join in the fun.

The weekender ends with MonGay Pride on Monday 12 August with live music, parties and special guests at venues across the town centre from 6pm to late.

Steve Morley, Cummins Darlington campus plant manager, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring Darlington Pride for the fourth year. Diversity and inclusion is one of our core values at Cummins, so it’s great to showcase our excitement and support to the local LGBTQIA+ community within Darlington.”

James Coe, the council’s LBTQIA+ ambassador said: “I am delighted that Cummins has come on board again this year to help us make the Pride Weekender such a great, free event for all the family.

“There is something for everyone and it is fantastic that we can celebrate inclusivity and acceptance in this way. I hope everyone will come down and enjoy the three days.”
