House builder, Bussey and Armstrong, is continuing its support of Christmas in Darlington thanks to its specially commissioned tree surround.
Twenty years, Bussey and Armstrong, commissioned local blacksmith Brian Russell of Little Newsham Forge to create a decorative surround to keep the tree safe. Twenty years on, the surround is still in use around the tree in Pease Place in the town centre.
Tony Cooper, director of Bussey and Armstrong, said: “It’s great how the tree surround has withstood the test of time. Our team puts it in place every year when the tree goes up and takes it away again at the end of the season. We are passionate about Darlington and are always happy to support the local community and the council with events.”
Libby McCollom, cabinet member for local services. said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Bussey and Armstrong. The tree and its decorations are fantastic, and the surround looks as good as ever.
“There’s lots to see and do in the town centre in the coming weeks. The Christmas tree trail is already underway with community groups and schools decorating trees for shop windows across the town centre and the ever popular ice sculpture trail is coming to town on Saturday 7 December.
“I hope everyone will come and support our unique independent and high streets shops this Christmas and visit our amazing cafes, bars and restaurants.”
