2024.05.02 Safety Report: Canitu Mini Cordless Chainsaw

02 May 2024

The following notice has been issued by the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

Product
Canitu Mini Cordless Chainsaw

Type
Machinery - Mini Chainsaw

Brand
Canitu

Country of origin
China

Product description
A dark green, black and silver 16-inch chainsaw.

Canitu

Hazard
The product presents a serious risk of injuries as there is no manually activated chain brake present. This could cause the chainsaw to unexpectedly kick back when used to saw wood.

The product also has poor internal build quality as on the transformer, the primary and secondary windings were found to be touching creating a hazard of fire or explosion.

The fuse included in the plug did not meet the requirements of BS 1362 as it was deemed to be counterfeit and has friction caps that did not contain a ballast, meaning it cannot provide the required protection under fault conditions.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, or the Plugs & Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.

Corrective action
The import has been rejected at the border and destroyed.
