Meet Elizabeth, our latest Real Results member.

Elizabeth is a 38-year-old full time mum who has her hands full with 8 children.  She moved from Bradford to Darlington in July 2019 and joined the Dolphin Centre Gym almost immediately.

Elizabeth has recently enrolled at a local college and is currently studying Math’s with a hope to joining  an access course in the near future.  She hasn't decided yet what her new career is going to be but she wants to help people with their health and nutrition.

A year ago, Elizabeth who is registered blind and needs an ankle replacement, struggled to get upstairs and needed help from her family to do so.  Elizabeth tried to change her unhealthy lifestyle and gave up smoking, but she replaced the cigarettes with food and gained extra weight.  She joined a slimming club when she was in a dress size 22 and lost nearly 3 stone in weight but then she hit a sticking point.

To re- start her weight loss Elizabeth joined the Dolphin Centre gym in August of last year and has since lost just over a stone in weight ,  overall has lost a massive 4 stone and is currently in a dress size 12 to 14.  Her dress size is not Elizabeth’s main goal , that is to be fit and healthy.

Working alongside her instructor Stu to achieve her goals, Elizabeth said “Stu has helped me a lot since I joined the gym, he tailored my program with my disability in mind and has also given me some exercises to help with my lower back problems which have greatly improved”.  Elizabeth went on to explain that Stu advised her that in order  to meet her goals, she needs to try and come to the gym at least 3 times a week but don’t force yourself to go more than that if you don’t want to.

Elizabeth trains in the gym 3 to 5 times a week where she’s met new friends who she now socializes with outside of the gym.  Speaking about the instructors Elizabeth says that she loves the personal reception she receives from our instructors who all know about her disability and are on hand to assist her in anyway, which makes her feel safe in the gym environment.

When asked what she enjoys most about the gym Elizabeth explained that she loves everything! The environment is friendly and not intimidating as she has found in a previous gym and doesn’t feel overwhelmed by anything. Since she joined her mental health has improved so much and she doesn’t know what she would do without it in her life.
