Get into cycling

Cycling is a great way to enjoy fresh air whether it’s as part of your commute or socially with friends or family.

You may be looking for a safe route to work or school or fancy exploring the local area on 2 wheels.

It only takes 5-6 minutes to cycle for 1 mile – so imagine how far you could go in half an hour! Cycling to work is a great way to fit a workout into your regular routine.

If you do not have a bike you may be able to access an affordable one if your employer has a Cycle 2 Work scheme or Bike Stop Darlington [external link] sell new and refurbished bikes. Payment in instalments is available.

Starting out

Let’s Go Tees Valley offers a free ‘Bike Buddy’ service [external link], where a cycling instructor will ride with you on a regular journey for example to work or college, so you can learn the best route for you and how to ride safely. 

Bike Stop Darlington [external link] offer local guided rides or sessions to support to you get on to 2 wheels confidently and safely.

British Cycling Lets Ride - Ride Darlo [external ink] offer guided rides with a trained instructor for those who are ready to try a longer ride with others.
