Who do you keep information about?

We keep information about owners and occupiers of residential and commercial premises in the Borough.

Why do you keep information about me?

We process personal data to provide services such as pest control and because we have a legal obligation to carry out inspections and investigation on a broad range of environmental matters. It is also necessary for us to process personal data to perform tasks which are carried out as part of our statutory duties, is in the public interest or to exercise official authority vested in us.

Who can see my information?

Your personal information will be treated as confidential and access is restricted to officers within Environmental Health.

The Council may share information with other Sections of the Council where permitted to do so under data protection legislation. It will make any disclosures required by law and may also share your information with other external bodies responsible for detecting/preventing crime including fraud or auditing/administering public funds.

How do you store the information you keep about me?

Information is held in a database, on the Council’s secure network and in some cases we have paper records.

How long do you keep information about me?

Information is retained in most cases for a period of 7 years and is destroyed securely when we no longer need it.

How did the Council get my personal data?

In addition to the information individuals provide themselves, we may also receive information from a number of other agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, Public Health England, Food Standards Agency, HMRC, DWP, Border Force, DEFRA, the Police, National Crime Agency, voluntary organisations such as CAB and Disc as well as members of the public.

What sort of information do you keep?

We may use the following information about you to make sure that we provide you with the right service, advice or support.  We will only use the minimum amount of information necessary to do so and will take every reasonable step to ensure the information is accurate.

  • Location data
  • One or more factors specific to the:-
    • physical
    • mental
    • economic
    • cultural
    • social identity of that natural person.

Special categories of personal data:

  • Racial or ethnic origin
  • Data concerning health
  • Data concerning a natural person’s sex life or sexual orientation.
